Alcohol Addiction When Did It Start? How Can You Stop?

Alcohol Addiction When Did It Start? How Can You Stop? For most, it was in the “Almost Alcoholic” phase.

An excerpt from a recent article confirmed my thoughts on this.  It is from nextavenue.org, here it the author: Joseph Nowinski is a clinical psychologist who works for the University of Connecticut Health Center and maintains a private practice.

  • A lot of people, including many health care professionals, believe the world is made up only of alcoholics and nonalcoholics. But our research shows us that there is another group. These people are not alcoholics, although they may experience some of the symptoms that alcoholics typically report. They drink regularly, but may not realize that some of their physical or emotional concerns are connected to their alcohol consumption. These are the “almost alcoholics,” and while anyone can become one, middle-aged and older adults are especially at risk of joining the group.

Our program specializes in individuals who are what we call Habitual Drinkers, who are trending towards alcoholism.  Those individuals began drinking out of boredom, anger, sadness or separation or loss.  And now find them selves using alcohol as a means of dealing with that emotion without dealing with the feeling state and perhaps transforming the need to drink.

Our program for alcohol dependency consists of several modalities: the primary one is hypnosis.

THE HYPNOSIS OBJECTIVE:

  • Uncover and release causes of negative emotions which lead to dependency of a substance
  • Change beliefs about labeling (alcoholic/addict) and about relapse, to release triggers, to create freedom of choice, to create a sense of powerfulness not powerlessness
  • Establish new ways to deal with feelings (cope with current and new situations
  • Improve self worth and self esteem
  • Gain freedom from guilt/shame
  • Create a new personal philosophy
  • Reinforce positive outcomes as person who chooses not to drink
