The subconscious is set up to avoid pain and seek pleasure.  So when adults are uncomfortable many seek relief in a drink of alcohol. But it really is a subconscious attempt make things better. However it becomes a pattern.

Currently all of your behaviors emanate from them without your conscious awareness and that is your level of self-esteem.
